LENT 2026 - Blessed to be a Blessing

I will bless you, so that you will be a blessing.
Genesis 12:2

What does it mean to be blessed of God? Most people probably define blessing in terms of physical comfort or well-being. However, Jesus begins his Sermon on the Mount with the Beatitudes, his description of the “blessed” life. Their simplicity of word and depth of meaning have spoken to generations of Christians. These eight statements encapsulate Christ’s teaching of the characteristics of the Christian life, a New Testament equivalent of the Ten Commandments.

Although the Beatitudes are some of the most familiar passages of Scripture, we rarely get an opportunity to look at each of them individually. So, this year we will study each specific Beatitude at the 6:30pm Wednesday evening Lenten services and on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. These special times of worship will give us an opportunity to reflect and meditate on these beautiful and profound words from our Lord that tell us what it truly means to be blessed.
